2010 Great Lakes BookFest at the Great Lakes Folk Festival

Michigan State University Press is pleased to announce the second annual Great Lakes BookFest as part of the 2010 Great Lakes Folk Festival, which takes place in downtown East Lansing on August 13-15, 2010. This year’s Great Lakes Folk Festival will present Grassroots Green, a series of presentations and activities that feature traditions of grassroots citizens groups and individuals who engage in green occupations, environmental activism, organic gardening, local foodways, recycled arts and folk wisdom for taking care of the planet.

The Michigan State University Press, a member of the Green Press Initiative, will enrich the Festival with a diverse array of literary offerings. The BookFest tent will display a rich selection of books by award-winning environmental authors, and additional tables will showcase publications from several Michigan and Great Lakes area publishers and booksellers. Browsers will find information from a variety of regional and local environmental groups on hand as well.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to hear three outstanding speakers and award-winning environmental authors—Dave Dempsey, Jeff Alexander and Mel Visser—talk about important issues for the land and water of the Great Lakes and beyond. Audiences will have the opportunity to talk with each author, and to discover ways that they can help save the special place we call the Great Lakes region. The schedule for these authors will be announced as part of the overall festival schedule.

The BookFest tent will be located at the crossroads of Abbot and Albert Streets. Stop by and browse our tables, pick up some literature and sit and listen to ways we can all become more “green” in our everyday living.
