Named after the liveliest and most exciting of the tune rhythms from the South of Ireland, Slide's origins date back to Ireland in 1999, when the band performed in various pubs for a local music festival in Bandon, Co. Cork. The band consists of artists from bands that have stretched across a few generations: from Dé Danann, Stocktons Wing, Liam Clancy's Band through to Damien Dempsey Band and Danú. In 2001, Folk Roots magazine named Slide "Best Newcomer." And in 2005, the band won the Arts Council of Ireland's Young Musicwide Award, developed to encourage young people to pursue professional careers in traditional Irish Music, Chamber Music, and Jazz.
Aogán Lynch, from Co.Cork, played music from a young age with his siblings; his father, accordionist Donncha Ó Loínsigh; and his mother, renowned singer Caitlín Ní Bheaglaoích. Aogán learned a great deal of his music performing with them in the Corca Dhuibhne peninsula of West Kerry. In 1999 Aogán received the TG4 Gradam Ceóil Young Musician of the Year award.
Daire Bracken began performing and touring at a young age with Comhaltas Ceoltoirí na hÉireann while also gaining experience in composing and arranging with other young bands such as Danú (he and Dónal Clancy were original members). Daire also comes from a family of musicians who hold All-Ireland titles, his brother Shane Bracken being a renowned concertina player.
Mick Broderick of east Galway has emerged as one of the most competent and innovative bouzouki players of his generation and has recorded with a variety of artists such as accordionist Bill Whelan.
Éamonn De Barra grew up and lives in Dublin and began to play music at a young age under the instruction of Seán Ó Tuama. He comes from one of the most musical homes in Dublin, and won the Young Traditional Musician of The Year Award in 2000.
