SATURDAY

• Library of Michigan announcement of Great Michigan Read
• Gloria Whelan is a poet and the award-winning author of many books including
• Homeless Bird
  for which she received the National Book Award. She lives with her husband, Joe, in the woods of Northern Michigan.
• Denise Brennan-Nelson's boundless energy and enthusiasm come from her days as a motivational speaker. Since the publication of her first children's picture book,
• Buzzy the bumblebee in 1999,
Denise has taken that enthusiasm into schools and inspired thousands of children to “bee-lieve” in themselves. She is also the author of
• My Teacher Likes to Say
• My Momma Likes to Say
• My Daddy Likes to Say,
three humorous books that examine the many idioms and clichés adults use; and
• Penny: The Forgotten Coin,
which traces one penny's journey through history. Also appearing will be the mascot “Buzzy”
• Rosemarie Brennan juggles careers as a writing teacher and an author. She lives in Brighton, Michigan with her three children, Ashley, Jason and Adam, who have taught her many important lessons, including that everything isn't black and white.
• Willow was the first collaboration with her sister, Denise Brennan-Nelson.
When they are not writing together, Rosemarie and Denise are having fun presenting writing and creativity workshops and retreats. Rosemarie's diverse past includes stints as a birth doula, coffeehouse owner, and legal secretary. She is seldom without paper and pen.
• Mary Ann McCabe Riehle, author of
• M is for Mom
learned to appreciate the importance of reading and writing while growing up in Kentucky. She graduated from Xavier University with a degree in Communication Arts and Education and has been a featured author and guest speaker at reading, writing, and library conferences. Mary Ann lives in southeast Michigan with her husband, two daughters and their dog, Bisbee.
• Renee Hand, author of
• Crypto Caper Series,
has two books out with a third set to come out later this year. Her books are mysteries that use cryptograms which need to be completed by the readers to help solve the mystery.
• Jef Mallett illustrator and cartoonist of
• Frazz about a middle school janitor
• Debbie A. Taylor, author of
• Sweet Music in Harlem
• Doris Holik Kelly author of
• Mystery of the Copper Turtle
new chapter book series published by Arbutus Press
• Nancy Shaw is the author of
• Racoon Tunes illustrated by Howard Fine
which tells the story of a family of mischievous raccoons on a rollicking night outing, rifling through sleeping people's trash in search of treats.
• Kirk Lignell is the author of Listen to the Raindrops
• Ruth Barshaw, author and illustrator of the
• Ellie McDoodle series
for six-12 year olds.

SUNDAY

• Susan Thoms, Grand Rapids author and Grand Rapids Press book reviewer. Debut book:
• Cesar Takes a Break
follows the secret life of school pets when students are on break
• Cynthia Furlong Reynolds- Dexter author and notable book award winner. Author of numerous children’s books including
• The Far Flung Adventures of Homer the Hummer,
• Grammie's Secret Cupboard,
• Rascal Makes Mischief on Mackinac Island,
• Across the Reach, and Oliver's Travels.
She is currently working on a new historical fiction series called Michigan Voices for us to premier next fall. The first book is set in 1913 and plot surrounds Henry Ford and the auto plant. She is an expert on researching and writing historical fiction set in Michigan. Cynthia is from Dexter.
• David Coverly/ Jim Tobin (author and illustrator) offer a 40 minute session for kids and adults. Coverly does daily cartoon
