PACKET PICK-UP/ORIENTATION UPDATE- posted July 21, '06

There will be three opportunities before the festival to pick up your festival information packet and your 2006 T-shirt.  They will be held "open house style" at People's Church in East Lansing, 200 W. Grand River Ave.  There will be staff and lead volunteers available to answer your questions, but no formal presentations.   Come any time during the hours below and we'll get you set up. Also bring a little cash, we'll be selling T shirts from previous festivals for just $1.00 each!

Wed. July 26 from 5pm- 8pm

Thur. Aug 3 from 5pm-8pm

Sat. Aug 5 from 8:30am-11:30am

If you haven't gotten an assignment yet, you should be hearing from us soon.

If you've just registered, you should have an assignment before the Aug 3 pick-up or we'll call you with questions.

If you have friends who want to volunteer, they can register at these packet pick-up/orientation events.

A corps of nearly 400 volunteers help produce this annual award-winning festival, a celebration of culture, tradition and community. Music and dance stages -- sponsored by the City of East Lansing -- feature rhythms, sounds, stories and spectacular musicianship over three days, from blues to bluegrass, Celtic, Cajun, Klezmer, Reggae and more; a Taste of Traditions food court with authentic regional and ethnic cuisine; Children's Folk Activities Area, with hands-on fun for the whole family; and living arts and heritage programs including Michigan craft guilds and Traditional Games, reflecting on the MSU Museum's traditional arts research.

For information on volunteering, call (517) 432-GLFF or email glffvolunteer@museum.msu.edu.

The festival could not be staged without the tremendous contributions of time and energy provided by the more than 400 volunteers involved each year. We hope each volunteer is able to work six hours during the festival. Most volunteer tasks are in blocks of about 3 hours.

In addition to having the satisfaction of being a part of making this special event happen, volunteers receive a festival t-shirt, an invitation to the Volunteer and Performer Party held on Saturday night of the festival, access to the festival “green rooms” and a regular newsletter featuring information about invited performers and special activities.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer member of the festival team, we would love to hear from you. Send an email to glffvolunteer@museum.msu.edu .
